Information we collect
When you create a research account
Your name, email address, the organization or institution you gave, the research role you selected and the acknowledgements you confirmed at registration, with the date and time.
When you place an order
Billing and shipping address, phone number, order contents and order history.
Payment information
Card details go directly to our payment provider. We never see or store a full card number. We keep the last four digits and the authorization result.
Automatically
IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and referring page. We also record how you move through a page, including mouse movement, clicks, scrolling and the terms you enter in the Certificates of Analysis search. If you are signed in, your account number is attached to that activity.
Why we use it
To verify eligibility for a research account, to take and fulfil orders, to send order and account email, to keep records we are required to keep, to prevent fraud and to send marketing email where you asked for it.
Who we share it with
Our payment provider, our shipping carrier, our email provider and our hosting provider, each only with what it needs to do its job. Google and Microsoft, who run the analytics set out under Cookies and tracking. Law enforcement or a regulator where we are legally required. We do not sell personal information.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies that keep you signed in and hold your cart are required for the site to work. Turning them off breaks the site.
We also run analytics. Analytics loads on every page and it is not held back behind a consent prompt. The controls at the end of this section are how you switch it off.
Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
Records which pages you view, which buttons and links you use, what you search for in the Certificates of Analysis library, what you add to the cart and what you order. If you are signed in, your account number is sent with that activity so repeat visits can be told apart. Your name, your email address and your billing details are not sent to Google. Google signals and ads personalization are switched off on this property, so this data is not used to target advertising at you. Google holds event data for 2 months and user level data for 14 months. How Google uses data from sites that use its services is set out at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Microsoft Clarity
Records your visit as a session replay covering mouse movement, clicks, scrolling and the layout of the pages you saw. Clarity is set to mask images and text, so what you type into a form is hidden in the recording. Password and payment fields are never recorded. Microsoft holds recordings for 30 days and keeps a small sample of them for up to 9 months. Microsoft sets out its handling of this data at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
Switching analytics off
Block or delete cookies for this site in your browser and both tools stop. Google also publishes an opt-out add-on for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout that switches Google Analytics off on every site you visit. Email us to ask what is held against your account or to have it deleted.
How long we keep it
Order and account records for as long as the law requires us to keep them, then deletion. Marketing contact details until you unsubscribe.
Your choices and rights
Ask for a copy of what we hold, ask for a correction, ask for deletion where no legal duty requires us to keep it and unsubscribe from marketing at any time. Email us to make a request. Deleting your account removes catalog access.
Security
The site runs over TLS. Access to customer data is limited to the accounts that need it. No system is perfectly secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
This site is not for anyone under 21 and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
